Henry and Mudge and the Great Grandpas is a fun children's book from 2005. It is the 26th book in the popular Henry and Mudge series. The story was written by Cynthia Rylant and has lovely pictures by Suçie Stevenson. This book is perfect for young readers who are just starting to read on their own. It even won a special award called the Geisel Award in 2006!

What Happens in the Story?

This book has four chapters, making it easy to read. The story begins with Henry and his loyal dog, Mudge, going on a special visit. They are off to see Henry's great-grandfather, Bill.

Meeting the Grandpas

Great-Grandpa Bill lives with several other older gentlemen. Henry and Mudge quickly discover that all the "grandpas" are very fond of them. They enjoy having the boy and his big dog around.

An Outdoor Adventure

While the grandpas are resting, Henry and Mudge decide to explore. They wander into the nearby woods. Soon, they discover a cool pond. Henry thinks it would be a great place for a swim!

A Family Swim

Henry remembers that his parents do not want him to swim alone. So, he goes back to get his dad to come and watch. When Henry's dad hears about the pond, Great-Grandpa Bill and the other grandpas decide to join in too! Everyone has a great time splashing around in the water.

Stories and Supper

After their swim, they all relax in the sun. The grandpas share interesting stories about their lives. Later, they head back to the house. Henry's mother has made a delicious spaghetti dinner for everyone to enjoy together.
