Himrod Junction is a special place where different train tracks meet. It is located in the town of Himrod, New York. Think of it like a crossroads for trains!

Right now, the Finger Lakes Railway (FGLK) uses Himrod Junction to connect with the Norfolk Southern's (NS) Corning Secondary line. The Finger Lakes Railway has permission, called "trackage rights," to use Norfolk Southern's tracks from Geneva all the way to Himrod Junction. From there, FGLK can reach its own train lines that go from Penn Yan in the north to Watkins Glen, New York in the south.

Train Activity at Himrod Junction

Norfolk Southern's Corning Line

Norfolk Southern operates a local freight train, known as H06. This train travels from Corning to Geneva and back. It usually runs from Sunday through Thursday, often in the early or late evening. The H06 train meets up with the Finger Lakes Railway trains in Geneva to exchange goods.

Finger Lakes Railway's Branch Lines

Just southwest of Himrod Junction, the Finger Lakes Railway has a small area called a "yard." This yard is where trains can be prepared or turn around for their trips to Watkins Glen or Penn Yan.

The Finger Lakes Railway runs a train called GW2 (which stands for Geneva, NY to Watkins Glen, NY, round trip). This train serves the branch line as needed. The GW2 train will go to Penn Yan if there are goods to deliver or pick up there. However, trips to Watkins Glen are more common than trips to Penn Yan.
