Hiromasa Suguri (村主 博正, Suguri Hiromasa, born July 29, 1976) is a Japanese former football player. He also worked as a manager for the J2 League club Iwaki FC until June 2023.
Playing Career
Hiromasa Suguri was born in Fukuroi, Shizuoka, Japan, on July 29, 1976. After finishing high school, he started his football career in 1995. He joined Honda FC, a team in the Japan Football League.
Suguri quickly became an important player in the midfield. His team, Honda, even won the league championship in 1996!
In 1998, he moved to Consadole Sapporo. This team had just been promoted to the top Japanese league, the J1 League. He played many games for them. However, in 1999, the team was moved down to the J2 League.
In June 2000, Suguri joined Verdy Kawasaki. He didn't play many matches there. In 2001, he moved to Omiya Ardija, another J2 club. He played for two seasons but still didn't get much playing time.
His next team was Sagan Tosu, which he joined in 2003. He played many games for them, often coming on as a substitute. In September 2005, he went on loan to Avispa Fukuoka. He helped them finish second in the league, which meant they were promoted to J1!
Suguri returned to Sagan Tosu in 2006. He continued to play for them until he decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 2007 season.
Managerial Career
After his playing days, Hiromasa Suguri decided to become a football coach. He worked hard and earned a special coaching license from the Japan Football Association in 2021. This license is called the S-Class coach license.
On December 9, 2021, Suguri was appointed as the manager of Iwaki FC. This team was playing in the J3 League at the time.
He led Iwaki FC to an amazing season! On November 6, 2022, his team won the J3 League championship. This was a historic moment for Iwaki FC, as it was their first-ever league title. Winning the championship also meant that Iwaki FC was promoted to the J2 League for the first time in their history.
However, on June 14, 2023, his contract with Iwaki FC was ended.
