About This Sherlock Holmes Collection
This book brings together several adventures of Sherlock Holmes. It was first released in October 1917. The publisher in the United Kingdom was John Murray. In the United States, it was published by George H. Doran Co.
One story, "The Adventure of the Cardboard Box", is in this collection. It was also in an earlier book called The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. But it was later removed from that book.
Many of these stories first appeared in The Strand Magazine. This popular magazine published six of the stories between 1908 and 1913. For example, "The Adventure of Wisteria Lodge" was split into two parts in the magazine. It was called "A Reminiscence of Sherlock Holmes."
The very last story in the book is "His Last Bow. The War Service of Sherlock Holmes". This story is like an extra chapter. It shows Holmes helping out during a war. It was first published in Collier's magazine in September 1917. This was just one month before the book came out.
