Hobson's Energy Plant

Hobson is home to a special factory called the Hobson uranium processing plant. This plant helps turn a natural element called uranium into a useful material. Uranium is mostly used to create electricity in power plants.

The plant is run by a company called Uranium Energy Corp. It takes tiny plastic beads, called ion-exchange resin beads, that have collected uranium from other places. These beads come from special sites in Duval County and Goliad County, where uranium is carefully collected from the ground.

At the Hobson plant, the uranium is processed into a concentrated powder known as yellowcake. This yellowcake is then used to make fuel for nuclear power plants.

The Hobson plant was first built in 1978. It was updated and fully refurbished in 2008 to make it more modern. Today, the plant operates at about 20% of its full capacity.
