Homepride is a well-known British food brand. It makes popular cooking sauces, like ones for pasta or curries. Homepride also has a famous flour that many people use for baking. The company Premier Foods owns the cooking sauce part of Homepride. Another company, Kerry Group, makes the Homepride flour.
A Look Back at Homepride
Homepride flour first appeared in 1920. In 1963, a new way to make flour was discovered. This meant bakers no longer needed to sift their flour. This new, easier-to-use flour was launched under the Homepride name.
Later, in 1974, Homepride started selling prepared cooking sauces. These sauces made it easier for people to cook meals at home. Over the years, Homepride has been owned by different companies. In 2000, the Homepride flour brand was sold to the Kerry Group. The cooking sauce part of Homepride was later bought by Premier Foods in 2006.
Homepride Fred
Homepride is famous for its cartoon character, "Fred the Flour Grader." Fred is a friendly chef who wears a tall white hat. He was created in 1964 to help advertise Homepride products.
Since 1965, Fred has been part of the brand's advertising. His well-known slogan is "Because graded grains make finer flour." This slogan tells people that Homepride flour is made from carefully chosen grains. In 2014, Fred returned to television adverts to promote Homepride's cooking sauces.
