Hopewell is a small, unincorporated community in Franklin County, Texas, United States. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially part of a city or town. In the year 2000, about 35 people lived there.
The Story of Hopewell
People first started settling in the Hopewell area in the 1850s. However, the community itself wasn't officially started until the 1880s. By the 1930s, Hopewell had two churches, a cemetery, and several homes spread out.
The first time its population was counted was in the 1970s, when 35 people lived there. In 1985, Hopewell still had a town hall, a cemetery, and scattered homes. The population stayed at 35 people in the year 2000.
Where is Hopewell?
Hopewell is located in southeastern Franklin County, Texas. You can find it on Farm to Market Road 21. It's about 6 miles (10 km) southeast of a town called Mount Vernon.
Learning in Hopewell
In 1896, Hopewell had two schools. One school had 60 white students and two teachers. The other school had 22 Black students and one teacher. This Black school was one of only five in all of Franklin County at the time.
By the 1930s, Hopewell had only one school. Today, students from the Hopewell community attend schools in the Mount Vernon Independent School District.
