Horse Museum is a fun Dr. Seuss book that came out on September 3, 2019. It was published by Random House Children's Books. This special book is based on a story that Dr. Seuss, whose real name was Theodor Seuss Geisel, started but never finished.

An Australian artist named Andrew Joyner completed the artwork for the book. It was a big release, with 250,000 copies printed at first. Horse Museum is the seventh Dr. Seuss book released after he passed away. Other books released later include Daisy-Head Mayzie (1995) and What Pet Should I Get? (2015).

How This Book Was Found

After Theodor Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss, passed away in 1991, his wife Audrey Geisel and assistant Claudia Prescott looked through his office. They gave most of his unfinished work to the University of California, San Diego. Some other special items were put into a box for safekeeping.

In October 2013, they opened this box. Inside, they found many interesting things. There was a folder called "Noble Failures" with lots of drawings. They also found a more complete story called The Pet Shop, which later became the book What Pet Should I Get?. Among these discoveries were sketches for The Horse Museum.

The story for Horse Museum was about 80% finished. However, it only had rough sketches by Dr. Seuss. It needed new, complete artwork to become a full book.

What's Inside the Book?

The main story of Horse Museum is about a horse. This horse leads a group of students on a tour through an art museum. It's a journey through art, all about horses!

The book features new illustrations by Andrew Joyner. It also includes real photographs of horse-related artwork. These artworks were created by famous artists like Rosa Bonheur, Pablo Picasso, and George Stubbs. You might even spot some of Dr. Seuss's own characters in the book. Look out for the Grinch, Horton the Elephant, and The Cat in the Hat!

At the end of the book, there's a special note from the publisher. This note explains how the book was discovered. It also shares details about the artists and artworks shown. You can learn about Dr. Seuss's interest in art and how Andrew Joyner created the new illustrations.
