This drill hall was built in 1985. It was designed for a group called G (London Scottish) Company of the 1st Battalion 51st Highland Volunteers. A "battalion" is a large group of soldiers, and a "company" is a smaller part of a battalion.
Moving History to a New Home
What makes this building special is that it includes parts from an older drill hall. Important pieces like the strong, decorative iron roof and the double-level iron balconies were carefully moved here. Even war memorials, which honor soldiers, were brought from the old building at 59 Buckingham Gate. This means the new building carries a piece of history within its walls.
Home to the London Regiment
For some time, the Horseferry Road drill hall was also home to A (London Scottish) Company of the London Regiment. The London Regiment is a part of the British Army. Later, this company moved to a different location.
