Type Pancake
Place of origin Hungary
Region or state Hungary, Alföld
Main ingredients Meat (usually veal), onions, spices, pepper and sour cream)

The Hortobágyi palacsinta is a yummy Hungarian pancake, a bit like a thin crepe. It's not sweet, but savoury, and it's usually filled with tasty meat. The meat inside is cooked like a stew, often with onions and spices, similar to famous Hungarian dishes like pörkölt or chicken paprikash. People often use veal, chicken, or even Hungarian sausage for the filling.

After the crepes are filled, they are carefully folded. Then, they are baked in the oven with a creamy sauce made from paprika and tejföl (which is a type of sour cream). To make it extra special, fresh parsley is sprinkled on top. In Hungary, people often roll up the filled crepes or fold them in half before rolling them. Sometimes, they stack the rolled crepes and pour the delicious sauce over them.

Where It Comes From

You might think the Hortobágyi palacsinta comes from the Hortobágy National Park in Hungary, but it actually doesn't! This tasty dish has nothing to do with that region. It was first created for a big event called the 1958 Brussels World Fair.
