The Hotel Argonne is a really old and important hotel in downtown Lima, Ohio. It was built in 1919, right after World War I ended. This hotel was built to honor the brave soldiers who fought in a big battle called the Meuse-Argonne Offensive.
About the Hotel Argonne
The Hotel Argonne stands tall in Lima, Ohio. It was named after a major battle from World War I. This battle, the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, was a very important fight. Building the hotel was a way to remember the soldiers who served.
Its Amazing Design
A talented architect named Andrew DeCurtins designed the Hotel Argonne. It's a tall building, ten stories high, made from strong limestone and brick. The outside has many fancy decorations. You can see special panels and columns on the first two floors. The top of the building has a decorative ledge with many small blocks, and a low wall.
Inside the hotel, the main lobby is very grand. It features beautiful marble and different kinds of wood. There is also a lot of fancy decorative molding on the walls and ceilings. All these details make the hotel look very elegant and special.
A Special Historic Place
In 1982, the Hotel Argonne was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a list of important buildings, sites, and objects in the United States. It was recognized for its unique and beautiful architecture.
The hotel was part of a special group called the "Lima Multiple Resource Area." This group included seventeen important buildings in Lima. They were all added to the Register at the same time. Many of these buildings, including the Hotel Argonne, were built during Lima's best years. At that time, Lima was very rich because of oil and the success of the Lima Locomotive Works. This company built trains and was a big part of the city's strong economy.
