The Hotel Higgins is a historic building in Glenrock, Wyoming. It is also known as the Tabor Hotel or Higgins Hotel. It was built between 1916 and 1917. This was during a time called the "oil boom" in Glenrock. An oil boom happens when a lot of oil is found, bringing many people and new businesses to an area.

The hotel was built for John E. Higgins and his wife, Josephine Amoretti Higgins. John Higgins was a local rancher and also an investor in the oil business. He was also a legislator, which means he helped make laws for the state. Edward Reavill was the architect who designed the hotel. It first opened its doors on May 9, 1917.

A Changing Name: From Higgins to Tabor and Back

After Josephine passed away in 1924 and John in 1926, the hotel's ownership changed. In 1942, Dr. and Mrs. Leonard Tabor bought the hotel. At this time, it became known as the Tabor Hotel.

The hotel had a few different owners over the years. Then, in 1978, it changed its name back to the Hotel Higgins.

What Does the Hotel Higgins Look Like?

The Hotel Higgins is a two-and-a-half-story building. It is made of wood and has a special "U" shape when you look at it from above. The front of the building has two main sections that face the street. These sections have tall, sloped roofs.

A connecting part of the building sits back from the street. It has a one-story porch at the front entrance. The sides of the hotel have small windows that stick out from the roof. These are called "shed dormers." You can also see the ends of the roof beams, called "rafter tails," under the edges of the roof.

When it was first built, the hotel had 38 rooms. These rooms had high ceilings and fancy plaster decorations. The outside of the hotel was originally covered with wooden siding. Later, this was covered with new shingle siding.

A Historic Landmark

The Hotel Higgins is an important part of history in Wyoming. Because of its historical value, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 25, 1983. This means it is recognized as a place worth preserving for future generations.
