Hottingen is a lively part of Zürich, a big city in Switzerland. It's located in what's called District 7. Imagine Zürich as a big puzzle; Hottingen is one important piece!

Long ago, Hottingen was its own small town, or "municipality." This means it had its own local government. But in 1893, it became a part of Zürich. This process is called "incorporation," which means it officially joined the larger city.

What is Hottingen Like?

Hottingen is home to about 10,100 people. It covers an area of about 5.05 square kilometres (1.95 sq mi). That's like a medium-sized park, but with lots of homes and buildings!

Where is Hottingen Located?

Hottingen sits on the southern side of a hill called Adlisberg. If you go up the hill, you'll find the higher part of Hottingen, which is known as Dolder. This area is mostly made up of homes and is a popular place to live in Zürich.

A Look at Hottingen's Past

As mentioned, Hottingen used to be a separate municipality. This was common in Switzerland, where many smaller towns joined larger cities over time. Becoming part of Zürich helped Hottingen grow and connect with more people and services.

Cool Places to Visit in Hottingen

Hottingen has some interesting spots to explore. Besides the Adlisberg hill, which is great for walks and enjoying nature, you can find:

• Villa Tobler: This is a beautiful old house with a lovely park around it. It's a nice place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
• Theater an der Winkelwiese: If you like plays and performances, this theater is a local highlight. It often hosts interesting shows.
