Houck, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Houck is a small place located in Cape Girardeau County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it's part of the larger county area. You can find Houck near where two roads, Highway F and Highway Z, meet.

A Look Back: Houck's History

The community of Houck got its name from two people, Abraham and Peter Houk. They were the owners of the land where the community grew.

A long time ago, in 1886, a post office was opened in Houck. This was a very important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years, but it eventually closed in 1906. Even though the post office is gone, the name Houck still marks this quiet spot in Missouri.
