Hugh Montgomerie, the 4th Earl of Eglinton, was an important Scottish landowner. He lived from 1563 to 1586.
His father was Hugh Montgomerie, the 3rd Earl of Eglinton. His mother was Agnes Drummond. Her father was Sir John Drummond of Innerpeffray. She was also the granddaughter of King James IV of Scotland.
For many years, people knew him as the "Master of Eglinton." The family's main home was the grand Eglinton Castle.
His father passed away in 1585. His mother, Agnes Drummond, later married Patrick Drummond, the 3rd Lord Drummond.
Hugh Montgomerie passed away unexpectedly at Stewarton on 18 April 1586.
Family Life
Hugh Montgomerie married Egidia Boyd in 1576. She was also known as Gelis Boyd. Her parents were Robert Boyd, the 4th Lord Boyd, and Marion Colquhoun.
They planned to set up their own home in 1580. This was when the Master of Eglinton became old enough.

Hugh Montgomerie later married Helen Kennedy. She was the daughter of Thomas Kennedy of Bargany.
