The main town of Huitiupán had a population of 2,857 people in 2010. Besides the main town, the municipality has 93 smaller communities. Some of the largest rural communities in 2010 were Zacatonal de Juárez (1,361 people), La Competencia (1,147 people), and José María Morelos y Pavón (1,143 people).
