You can see things like coal wagons, freight wagons (for carrying goods), and passenger coaches (where people ride). They also have many old train engines, called locomotives, that used to belong to the New South Wales Government Railways.
The museum once had seven of the famous South Maitland Railways 10 Class locomotives. These were special trains that were important to history. However, these particular locomotives were later sold to another museum.

- SMR 23 – This engine was taken apart while it was at Rothbury. It was painted blue. Its parts have since been moved to another museum in Dorrigo.
- SMR 26 – This engine was kept indoors and was black.
- SMR 27 – This engine was stored indoors and was black. Some of its parts were used to help fix up another engine, SMR 10.

- SMR 31 – This engine was stored outside and was painted green.
In April 2013, all seven of these special locomotives were sold. They now belong to the Dorrigo Steam Railway & Museum.
