The Hydro-Québec Building (which is called Édifice Hydro-Québec in French) is a tall building in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It stands about 110 meters (361 feet) high and has 27 floors. This building was finished in 1962.
It is the main office for Hydro-Québec, which is a big company that provides electricity to Quebec. The building also has offices for the Premier of Quebec in Montreal. The Premier is like the leader of the government in Quebec. A person named Gaston Gagnier designed this important building.
Location and History
The Hydro-Québec Building is found on a street called René Lévesque Boulevard. This street is named after a very important former leader of Quebec, René Lévesque.
René Lévesque and Hydroelectricity
René Lévesque played a big role in Quebec's history. In 1963, when he was a minister in the government, he helped make Quebec's electricity companies public. This means the government took control of them to make sure everyone in Quebec could get electricity easily and fairly. This process is called nationalization.
To honor René Lévesque, a special statue of his head and shoulders, called a bust, was placed in front of the building. It was put there on August 24, 2001.
