Hypocalymma is a group of evergreen shrubs, which are small, bushy plants that keep their leaves all year round. They belong to the Myrtaceae family, also known as the myrtle family. Scientists first described this group of plants in 1840. All Hypocalymma plants are found only in southern Western Australia, meaning they are endemic to that area. This means they naturally grow nowhere else in the world!
Discovering Hypocalymma Plants
Scientists first officially named and described the Hypocalymma group of plants in 1840. This was an important step for understanding the different types of plants in the world. Since then, many more specific kinds of Hypocalymma have been found and named.
