Why Regular Internet Won't Work in Space

How This Space Internet Would Work
The Interplanetary Internet would use a special way of sending information called "store-and-forward." Imagine sending a message in a bottle across an ocean. You throw it in, and it eventually reaches the other side. In space, data would be sent in "bundles" from one spacecraft or planet to the next. Each stop would hold onto the data until it could safely send it to the next point. This way, if a connection is temporarily lost, the data isn't lost forever; it just waits until the path is clear again. NASA and other space agencies are working on making this idea a reality for future space missions.
