I Miss You, I Miss You! (Swedish: Jag saknar dig, jag saknar dig!) is a powerful novel from Sweden. It was written by Peter Pohl and Kinna Gieth and first published in 1992. This book tells a moving story about dealing with loss and grief.
What the Story Is About
Imagine having a twin sister, someone who looks exactly like you and shares everything. That's the story of Cilla and Tina, who are 13-year-old identical twins.
One ordinary day, as they rush to catch the school bus, something terrible happens. Cilla is hit by a car and dies.
The book then explores how Tina tries to cope and find her way in life without her beloved sister. It also shows the happy times the twins shared before Cilla's death. The story covers Tina's first year living without Cilla.
How the Book Was Made
The idea for I Miss You, I Miss You! came from a real-life experience. Kinna Gieth and her twin sister, Jenny, read another book by Peter Pohl. That book was called Alltid den där Annette. In it, a character named Annette loses her twin.
While reading, Kinna and Jenny talked about how hard it would be if one of them died. Sadly, just a few weeks later, Jenny passed away.
Kinna then reached out to Peter Pohl. She asked him to help her write their story. Pohl used many things to create the book. He used letters Kinna wrote, poems by the twins, and their diaries. He also had many conversations with Kinna. All these pieces helped form the basis of this special book.
The Movie Version
The novel I Miss You, I Miss You! was later made into a movie. A Swedish director named Anders Grönros directed the film.
The movie was called Jag saknar dig. It was released in 2011, bringing the book's emotional story to the big screen.
