I Want to Go to School Too is a fun children's book by Astrid Lindgren. Its original Swedish title is Jag vill också gå i skolan. The story is about a brother and sister, Peter and Lena. You might remember them from another book, I Want a Brother or Sister.

The Story of Lena's School Day
Lena really wants to go to school. One day, her older brother Peter decides to take her with him. Peter shows Lena the way to school. He also tells her which streets to be extra careful on.
Lena Explores School
At school, Lena gets to see everything. She even gets to sit in Lisa's chair. Lisa is sick that day and can't come to school. Lena watches Peter as he learns to calculate and write.
Playground Fun and a Small Fight
During the break, Lena and Peter play together. They have fun on the school playground. But then, Peter's classmate Pelle says something mean. He thinks it's silly to bring little kids to school. This makes Peter and Pelle get into a small fight. Lena feels a bit scared, but she tries not to show it.
Learning in Biology Class
Lena is happy when the school bell rings. It means biology class is starting! In this class, Lena actually helps out. The teacher shows the students a bird. Lena quickly knows it's a chaffinch!
More School Adventures
Lena stays with Peter for the rest of the day. She joins him for breakfast in the dining room. She also watches during gymnastics and reading time. By the end of the day, Pelle doesn't seem to mind Lena being there anymore. When Lena and Peter walk home, Lena is very happy. She now knows exactly what Peter's school is like!
About the Book
I Want to Go to School Too was first released in Sweden in 1951. The first pictures for the book were drawn by Birgitta Nordenskjöld.
New Illustrations and Translations
Later, in 1979, a new Swedish version came out. This time, the pictures were made by Ilon Wikland. The book was translated into English in 1980. It has been translated into at least 20 different languages around the world.
Peter and Lena's Other Adventures
Astrid Lindgren wrote two books about Peter and Lena. The first book is I Want a Brother or Sister. In that story, Peter gets his sister Lena. He also gets another brother named Nils. Nils is not mentioned in I Want to Go to School Too.
