Ian Richard Parkin (born August 18, 1949 – died July 1, 1995) was an English musician. He played the rhythm guitar in the first version of a band called Be-Bop Deluxe. This band was led by Bill Nelson.
Who Was Ian Parkin?
Ian Parkin was born in a place called Wakefield in Yorkshire, England. This was in 1949. He met Bill Nelson when they were both students at Ings Road Secondary Modern School. They became good friends. Their first time playing music for an audience was at a school Christmas concert. They played together as a guitar duo. Later, they started a band called The Cosmonauts. This band later changed its name to The Strangers.
Joining Be-Bop Deluxe
Ian Parkin and Bill Nelson later formed another band called Flagship. This band eventually became known as Be-Bop Deluxe. Ian played the rhythm guitar for Be-Bop Deluxe. He was part of their first album, which was called Axe Victim. This album was released in 1974. Soon after the album came out, Ian decided to leave the band.
Life After Be-Bop Deluxe
Even after leaving Be-Bop Deluxe, Ian Parkin continued to work in the music business. He also got married and had three children. Ian Parkin passed away on July 1, 1995, when he was 45 years old.
