Ian Walker grew up in a very artistic family. His father was George Walker, a famous composer. George Walker was the first African-American to win the Pulitzer Prize in Music! Ian's mother, Helen Walker-Hill, was also a music historian.

Ian Walker helped start a theater group called Second Wind Productions. This group is in San Francisco. He is currently the main playwright there, meaning he writes many of their plays. One of his plays from 1991 was about an art forger. This play later became a movie called Forger.

In 2013, Ian started his own company, Hurricane Images Inc. This company makes many different kinds of films and videos. They create short movies, like a documentary about his father. They also make videos for companies and music videos.

As a playwright, Ian Walker likes to explore important ideas. He writes about social and political topics. He once said that writing plays is "an attempt to reshape the world." He tries to show moments where people speak the truth. Ian Walker lives in San Francisco today.
