Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn al-Husayn Ibn al-Kattani (born 951, died 1029) was a very smart and talented person from a long time ago. He was an Arab scholar, a deep thinker (philosopher), a doctor (physician), an astrologer (someone who studies stars), a writer, and a poet. People sometimes called him "al-Mutatabbib," which means "the physician."
He was born in a city called Córdoba in a place known as the Caliphate of Cordoba. He wrote many books about logic, which is how we use reasoning to figure things out.

Who Was Ibn al-Kattani?
Ibn al-Kattani lived a long time ago, from 951 to 1029. He was known for being good at many different things. He was not just a doctor, but also a philosopher who thought deeply about life. He was also a poet and a writer.
His Work as a Physician
For a while, Ibn al-Kattani was the personal doctor for Al-Mansur Ibn Abi Aamir. Al-Mansur was the ruler, or sultan, of al-Andalus. During this time, Ibn al-Kattani wrote an important medical book.
The Treatment of Dangerous Diseases
His famous medical book was called The Treatment of Dangerous Diseases Appearing Superficially on the Body. For a long time, people thought this book was lost. But then, a copy was found among old writings at the National Library of Medicine. A big part of this book talks about how to treat bites from poisonous animals.
His Love for Poetry
Ibn al-Kattani also loved poetry. He put together a collection of poems from Andalusian poets. He became very famous for another book he wrote. This book was all about how poets use metaphors in their writing. Metaphors are a way of describing something by saying it is something else.
His Later Life
Ibn al-Kattani passed away in the city of Saragossa in the year 1029.
