Ice stock sport facts for kids
Icestock sport is a fun winter sport that's a bit like curling. It's also known as Bavarian Curling because it's very popular in places like southern Germany, Austria, and a part of Italy called Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol.
In this sport, players slide special objects called ice stocks across an ice surface. The goal is to either get your ice stock as close as possible to a target, or to slide it the longest distance.

What is Icestock Sport?
Icestock sport involves sliding a special piece of equipment called an "ice stock." This stock has a smooth bottom that helps it glide easily. It also has a handle, or stick, attached to it, which is about 30 centimeters (about 12 inches) long. Players use this stick to push and guide the ice stock.
Playing on Ice and Tarmac
Even though it's called "icestock sport," it's not just played on ice! While it's a traditional winter sport, many events also happen in the summer. During warmer months, players can enjoy the sport on a hard surface like tarmac. This means you can play icestock sport all year round!
Icestock and the Olympics
Icestock sport has even been part of the Winter Olympic Games! It was shown as a demonstration sport on two different occasions. This means it was presented to a wider audience, even though it wasn't an official medal event at those times.
