Ida F. Pulis Lathrop (1859–1937) was an American painter. She was known for her beautiful portraits, still life paintings, and landscapes. Ida Lathrop lived and worked in Albany, New York.
Early Life and Family
Ida F. Pulis was born on October 27, 1859. Her birthplace was Troy, New York. Her parents were Catherine (née Sheffér) and Abraham William Pulis.
In 1885, she married Cyprus Clark Lathrop. They had two daughters together. Both of their daughters became famous artists too. Their names were Gertrude K. Lathrop and Dorothy P. Lathrop. Ida Pulis Lathrop taught herself how to paint. She did not go to a special art school.
Her Art and Legacy
Ida Lathrop painted many different subjects. She often created detailed portraits of people. She also painted still life pictures. These show objects like fruit or flowers. Her landscapes captured outdoor scenes.
You can see her artwork in several museums. The Albany Institute of History & Art has some of her pieces. The Smithsonian American Art Museum also owns her paintings.
Later Life and Passing
Ida Pulis Lathrop passed away on September 7, 1937. She died at her home in Albany, New York. She is buried in the Albany Rural Cemetery.
