Ieuan Cennydd Evans is a famous Welsh former rugby union player. He was born on March 21, 1964. Ieuan played as a wing, which is a fast-running position in rugby.

He played for well-known teams like Llanelli, Bath, the Welsh national team, and the British and Irish Lions. Ieuan is one of Wales' top try scorers in rugby history. He also captained Wales many times.

Playing for Llanelli and Bath

Ieuan played 232 games for Llanelli. He scored an amazing 194 tries for the club. He also helped Llanelli win five cup finals.

In 1997, Ieuan left Llanelli to play for Bath. With Bath, he helped the team win the Heineken Cup in 1998. This was a very important European rugby competition.

Playing for Wales and the Lions

While playing for Llanelli, Ieuan was chosen to play for the Welsh national team. His first international game was against France in 1987.

Welsh National Team Achievements

Ieuan played 72 games for Wales. He was captain in 28 of those games. He scored 33 tries for Wales, which was a record at the time. A TV commentator even nicknamed him "Merlin" because of his magical play. In 1994, he captained Wales to win the Five Nations Championship.

British and Irish Lions Tours

Ieuan also went on three tours with the British and Irish Lions. These tours were to Australia in 1989, New Zealand in 1993, and South Africa in 1997.

One of his most famous moments was scoring the winning try against Australia in 1989. He also scored four tries during the 1993 tour to New Zealand. This made him the Lions' top try scorer on that tour. He played his last international game in 1998 against Italy.
