A Look Back: The Church's History
The First Church of Christ, Scientist, was started on July 17, 1891. It was the very first Christian Science church in the state of Utah. The church building itself was finished in 1898.
A local architect named Walter E. Ware designed the church. He used a style called Richardsonian Romanesque. This style often features strong, heavy stone, round arches, and detailed carvings. The church was built using brick and special Utah Kyune sandstone. It was fully paid for and officially opened on November 27, 1898.
What's Happening There Now
The Christian Science Church moved out of the building in 2002. For a short time, it was used by a business that sold art and antiques. But soon, it became a church again!
Since about 2006, the building has been home to the Iglesia La Luz del Mundo congregation. This means the historic building continues to be a place of worship for the community.
