Iglesia Arciprestal del Salvador

The Iglesia Arciprestal del Salvador (which means Archpriestal Church of the Savior) is a beautiful Roman Catholic church. You can find it in Requena, a town in the province of Valencia, Spain. This church is known for its amazing Renaissance style.

History of the Church

How the Church Was Built

The Iglesia del Salvador was first built a very long time ago, in the 15th century. Back then, it was designed in a special style called Isabelline Gothic. This style was popular in Spain and had lots of fancy decorations.

Changes Over Time

Later, in the 18th century, the church got a big makeover. This was done in the Baroque style, which added even more detailed and dramatic features. During this time, a special part called the Chapel of the Communion was added. They also built the tall bell-tower that you can see today.

Special Recognition

In 1966, something very important happened. The church, along with the whole town of Requena, was given a special title. It was declared a "Conjunto Histórico-Artístico Nacional." This means it's recognized as a very important historical and artistic site in Spain. It's like saying it's a national treasure!

What the Church Looks Like

The inside of the church is quite grand. It has three main sections called naves. Along the sides, there are smaller rooms known as side chapels. The front of the church, called the main façade, is also very impressive. It has three doorways, and each one is decorated with many detailed sculptures.
