A Surprise Attack
The Imagawa army was surprised by a smaller force led by Oda Nobunaga. Nobunaga attacked during thick fog and after heavy rain. This made it hard for the Imagawa army to see and react.
Naomori's Heroic End
During this sudden attack, Ii Naomori bravely tried to protect his lord, Imagawa Yoshimoto. Sadly, Naomori was killed in the battle on June 12, 1560. His death was a big loss for the Ii clan and the Imagawa clan.
Legacy of the Ii Clan
After Ii Naomori's death, his daughter, Ii Naotora, became the head of the Ii clan. She was a strong leader who helped her clan survive during tough times.
Ii Naomasa and Tokugawa Ieyasu
Naotora later adopted a young man named Ii Naomasa. He grew up to be one of the most famous samurai in Japanese history. Ii Naomasa became one of the Four Guardian Kings of Tokugawa Ieyasu. These "Guardian Kings" were the most trusted and skilled generals of Ieyasu, who eventually united Japan.
