How Ilesboro Started

The area that became Ilesboro was officially planned out, or platted, in 1835. This means someone drew up a map showing where streets, lots, and public spaces would be. The community was named after Henry Iles, who owned the land where the town was going to be built.

The Old Post Office

For many years, Ilesboro had its own post office. It opened in 1852, which was a long time ago! The post office was an important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. It stayed open for about 50 years, finally closing its doors in 1902.
