Description: THE HOUSE WAS BUILT IN 1853 BY THE SCHERMERHORN FAMILY AND NAMED FOR A 2 CENTURY OAK TREE WHICH STOOD ON THE PROPERTY. AFTER MRS. SCHERMERHORN DIED IT WAS PURCHASED IN 1857 BY AUGUSTUS CRANE WHO REMODELLED THE HOUSE INTO AN ITALIAN VILLA. IT NOW BELONGS TO THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY
