Description: A bend in the 75mile long Akshayuk Pass, which connects north and south Pangnirtung fiords, beside the Penny Ice Cap on Baffin Island's Cumberland Peninsula. The ice cap is a remnant of the last ice age, when this whole scene (2.8 billion year old rock) was carved by the movement of ice piled a mile high on top of it. To the left or west is the Auyuittuq National Park. This is in one of the most spectacular, remote and barely-accessible places in the northern hemisphere. And amazing to see from above halfway between London and Los Angeles. Since it's just north of the Arctic Circle, the Sun won't see it at the Winter Solstice, one month past the day I shot this.
