The Akshayuk Pass, once known as Pangnirtung Pass, is a famous mountain pass. It is located in the Baffin Mountains in Nunavut, Canada. This pass is a key part of Auyuittuq National Park.
It sits about 17 kilometers (11 miles) from Mount Thor to the southwest. The town of Pangnirtung is about 64 kilometers (40 miles) away. To the northeast, you'll find Qikiqtarjuaq, which is about 109 kilometers (68 miles) from the pass.
Exploring Akshayuk Pass
Akshayuk Pass is found on the Cumberland Peninsula of Baffin Island. It is a long valley, stretching about 97 kilometers (60 miles). This valley cuts through the southern Baffin Mountains.
The highest point in the pass is called Summit Lake. This area was once a large riverbed. Over time, the river carved out the valley we see today. It now serves as a path for travelers. It also helps drain water from the glaciers that flow into the valleys below.
