Description: Photograph of pastel portrait, Mrs. Grey (1917) of Alexander Simpson by the Australian sculptor Dora Ohlfsen (1869–1948), who lived and worked in Rome for decades. Simpson was the model for Ohlfsen's Anzac medal (1916). This photograph was one of a series of photographs of her work taken by Ohlfsen in Rome and sent to her niece, Dora Stanford. Stanford gave it to the Art Gallery of New South Wales, which published it on its website a few years ago. The photograph was not (so far as I know) published in Ohlfsen's lifetime. The work itself was shown in Sydney in 1920 but is lost.
