Sir—Enclosed you will find a plan of Fort Bedford, situated whereRaystown formerly stood, and where Bedford, the county town ofBedford county, Pennsylvania, now is. I know not when it wasbuilt; probably, however, between 1745 and 1750, certainly before1755. The draft or plan is copied from a copy furnished to the honorableRichard Biddle, from the British Museum, to which institution it waspresented by George the Fourth. The copy is correct in all respects, except that I have reduced thescale to one third of the original. There is one thing in the draftwhich none of us here can comprehend.
