Besides the beds of the present creeks, thereis an extensive, old gravel deposit running in an irregular line fromWyo southerly through the county, passing to the east of Willows.It extends to near Maxwell in Colusa County. As distinguished fromthe fresher gravels in the creek beds, this material has more or less clay 2(h: minp:s anh mixkhai. resources. mixed with it. The clay acts as a binder, and improves the value ofthe gravel for road material. However, the same feature makes wash-ing necessary when it is used for concrete Avork. Besides those noted below there are several small, privately ownedpits, which sell gravel at 40 to 75 cents per yard at the pit. County Pit (knoAvn locally as Forney Glen Pit). The county owns40 acres in Sec. 24. T. 19 N., R. 3 W., 4 miles southeast of Willows,from which gravel is taken for use on the county roads in that vicinity. Text Appearing After Image: Photo No. 87.
