Description: The Arts Students League Building at 215 West 57th Street, between 7th Avenue and Broadway in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, was built in 1891-92 as the American Fine Arts Society, and was designed by Henry J. Hardenbergh with W.C. Hunting & J.C. Jacobsen in French Renaissance Revival style. Hardenbergh based the design on a 16th century hunting lodge built by Francis I. The American Fine Arts Society was comprised of the New York Architectural League, the Society of American Artists and the Art Students League, who joined together to raise the money necessary to put up this building, with galleries and offices for all three organizations. Only the Art Students League uses it now. (Sources: Guide to NYC Landmarks (4th ed.) and AIA Guide to NYC (4th ed.))
