Description: BSL brochure for the phantom SS Phyllis Wheatley (Source: Marcus Garvey and UNIA Papers Project). A central exhibit in the Mail Fraud case of 1921, featuring a doctored photograph of an ex-German ship the SS Orion, put up for sale by the United States Shipping Board. The Orion's name has been replaced with name Phyllis Wheatley. The Black Star Line had proposed to buy, and rename her but the transaction was never completed. Source: Martin, Tony.
