Description: Carrizo Plain National Monument, in eastern San Luis Obispo County, central California. The flowers in the foreground include California poppies (Eschscholzia species), lupine (Lupinus species), and Monolopia species. Note that one can see Mount Pinos in the center distance, with snow on top (elevation 8,847 ft—2,697 m), and can also see the Elkhorn scarp on the left in the distance, which is the surface expression of the notorious San Andreas Fault. Taken in Spring—March 2003.
