Description: Tidal currents through Dodd Narrows can be 7-8 knots. False Narrows, to the east of Mudge Island, has lesser currents and is usually the choice of kayakers going to the southern Gulf Islands from Nanaimo. The kayaker pictured here is visiting from Austria. The kayaks are both the venerable Frontiersman brand made in the '60's in BC. The white one, on being repaired from damage, had the cockpit modified to the extent of allowing room for the dog seen in in the foreground shadow. She logged many miles in it.
