Description: Dun Skudiburgh Dun is the Gaelic for fort, which was built on a suitable crag or look out. This photo shows what a fantastis spot this was to see any invader coming in from the sea. The dun seemed to have arrived with the Brthonic Celts in about the 7th century BC. They are associated with the Iron Age culture of warrior tribes and petty chieftains. The duns were often smaller than brochs and were not capable of supporting large, tall structures. When does a dun become a broch?
