Description: The earliest known visual representation for the government of Dukes County, Massachusetts, identified with the geographic entity Martha's Vineyard. This early seal, showing a grapevine with a crudely drawn bunch of grapes is also known as the Athearn seal, as it was found in a 1722 manuscript by James and Jabez Athearn, brothers and early Justices of the Peace and Clerk of the Courts on Martha's Vineyard.
