Description: Arc lamps spaced 60 feet apart in zigzag fashion on both sides of Baltimore Street, the city's main thoroughfare, to evenly distribute the light. Article author Sidney Blumenthal writes, "The photograph, which was taken at a late hour in the evening, shows with what brilliancy the street is illuminated, and it is clearly seen how accurate and distinctive the wares in the va- rious show windows stand forth without the assistance of light from their own illuminants." (pp. 10–11)
