Description: This South Carolina state flag was commissioned by the state for The Washington Light Infantry militia of Charleston, it was given to them in June of 1875. The flag is contains 2 different sides unlike the normal state flag. The backside (reverse) a white background with a palmetto in the center with the state motto below. The flag was described as: "...On the oneside is the sliver crescent on a blue field, the Moultrie flag. On the other side, on a white field, is the palmetto, with the state motto Dum Spiro! Spero! in golden letters.." _ -The daily phoenix, June 12, 1875
