Description: Clydia Mae Richardson operates the Great Seal of the United States with Secretary of State John Foster Dulles looking on, during a ceremony to open a new home for the Great Seal. Richardson was Chief of the Presidential Appointments, and had led efforts to find a permanent home for the Great Seal, which in July 1955 resulted in its being put on public display for the first time in a central location in the State Department building. She was the unofficial keeper of the seal from 1942 until 1970. Deputy Undersecretary of State Loy W. Henderson is in the background in the upper left. The press was made in 1903 and is still in use today.
