Description: Greyhound Bus Station, 1200 Blanding Street, Columbia, Richland County, SC. Photo taken in November, 1986. Constructed: 1938-1939. The Greyhound Bus Station is Columbia's finest example of Art Moderne architecture, emphasizing the use of new materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, and "Vitrolite" glass panels, and with extensive use of streamlining. Its exterior features include blue and ivory "Vitrolite" glass panels and an aluminum marquee trimmed with stainless steel bands and aluminum greyhound at each end. Greyhound stopped using the depot in 1987. At present it has been converted into a plastic surgery clinic.
