Image: HaywardFaultExposedComposite

Description: Eleven image composite of a paleoseismology exhibit located in Fremont encompassing over 180 degrees of view. See related images below for an annotated and enhanced version. Various features are marked and annotated on the surface of the pit, which reveals 4000 and 9000 year sand overlays and the Hayward Fault. The fault line is marked with cordage about 1/5 of the image width from the left. The dark gravel seen ahead is an ancient deposition of nearby Alameda Creek, as are the more recent sand layers. The uppermost half foot (15 cm.) of soil is recent fill. The images were neither stitched nor brightness matched. Contact the uploader for originals at twice the resolution.
