Description: Title: "A Wilde, called Sychnecta, of the Mohawk from North America, seen in Blaauw Jan 1764" Description: A Mohawk Indian that could be seen in Blaauw Jan's inn on the Kloveniersburgwal, near the current numbers 87-89 (in Amsterdam). Etching. Dimensions: 260 x 195 mm.

Sychnecta came from Canajoharie. This village (not to be confused with the current place of that name) was, together with Fort Hunter, the only remaining home of the Mohawk people in the Mohawk Valley. The native American was lured to Europe under false pretenses and sold to the widow Anthonie Bergmeyer, owner of Blaauw Jan.
